Cookstown 100 results as Adam McLean and Derek Sheils secure wins

Adam McLean raced to an impressive double at Saturday's Cookstown 100 road races.

McLean marked his return from injury with wins in the Supersport and Supertwins classes.

The McAdoo Racing rider edged out Darryl Tweed by just 0.8 seconds to clinch the Supersport race, with Paul Jordan in third.

It was a more comfortable margin in the Supertwins, with McLean winning by 3.7 seconds over Tweed with Michael Sweeney completing the podium.

With the win McLean also broke the lap record.

Meanwhile, Derek Sheils stood on the top step after winning the twice restarted Open race.

Sheils saw off Sweeney by 2.1 seconds to make it nine career wins in total at the circuit.

Thomas Maxwell finished third.

Two red flags stalled the Open race following incidents involving McLean and Stephen McKnight. Thankfully neither rider was hurt.

Jordan was a convincing winner of the Moto3/125cc class ahead of Nigel Moore and Graham Kennedy, with Neil Kernohan prevailing in the 250cc/Lightweight class.

Barry Davidson claimed the Junior Classic race.

Heavy rain forced organisers to cancel the feature Superbike race of the meeting.
