Cook the perfect poached egg with runny yolk in just 60 seconds

Poached eggs have become quite the staple for Scots whipping up a tasty breakfast for the morning ahead.

The healthier cousin of the adored fried egg, poached eggs are often served up with salmon and a side of avocado.

But despite our love for these little guys, we more often than not get our cooking technique wrong - either the yolk is too hard or barely cooked at all.

Surrey Live has come up with a unique cooking hack that ensure that the final product comes out that perfect runny mess.

Many people have dipped into their pockets to fork out for hi-tech gadgets that promise the same - but all you need for this recipe is a mug of water, a microwave and just 60 seconds of your time.

Here’s how to easily make a poached egg

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • Half a mug of water/ 200ml

Method:

  1. Fill half a mug with water.
  2. Crack an egg into it.
  3. Microwave on high for 1 minute.
  4. Use a large spoon to dish the egg out of the mug and pop it on kitchen paper to drain.
  5. Serve with whatever you want.
