Coober Pedy man charged with murder after alleged stabbing

A Coober Pedy man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another man in South Australia's far north.

A 37-year-old man, also from Coober Pedy, was found with critical injuries about 10:00pm on Thursday on St Nicholas Street.

SA Police said ambulance officers made desperate attempts to treat the man, but he died a short time later.

A 27-year-old man who is currently being interviewed, has been arrested and is expected to be charged with murder.

Police said both men are believed to be known to each other.

The man has also been charged with aggravated assault causing harm and a breach of an intervention order following an earlier assault against his female partner.

Coober Pedy, known for its opal mining industry, is more than 800 kilometres north of Adelaide.

In a separate incident, police have arrested a man for attempted murder after another man was found with serious head injuries at Aldinga Beach, south of Adelaide, last night.

Police were called to the Storey Avenue home just after 9:30pm.

The injured man was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre and is in a stable condition.

A 28-year-old Aldinga Beach man will face court today.
