Convicted Paisley sex offender caught with "extreme porn" during routine visit

A convicted sex offender could be facing another jail sentence after he admitted to having “extreme” porn on his laptop that involved cows, donkeys and even an octopus.

Vile Christopher Murphy, who has a record littered with a number of previous sexual offence - and has previously been caged for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in broad daylight, was caught with sickening images of child sexual exploitation on his laptop alongside “extreme pornography” depicting bestiality.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how cops attended at the beast’s Stock Street flat in July last year for a “routine” visit where they made the grim discovery Murphy had been watching child sex abuse and bestiality porn.

After forensic cops examined the 37-year-old’s laptop, they found almost 300 images of “extreme pornography” which featured adult males and females engaging in sexual activity with cattle, canines, snakes – and an octopus.

Michael Cunningham, procurator fiscal depute, told the court PC Munro and Howatt attended the creep’s home on Saturday, July 9 last year for a “routine visit” as part of Murphy’s risk management plan – due to him being on the sex offenders’ register.

The cops asked Murphy if they could examine his mobile and laptop to check his internet history.

Mr Cunningham explained: “The accused agreed and PC Munro examined the laptop’s internet history and immediately saw four different searches from July 6, 2022 which gave concern. These search items included ‘animal sex videos’.

“When the searches were clicked on, it opened explicit images involving males and females in sexual acts with a number of different animals.

“Murphy was arrested and the laptop was sent to the police cybercrime unit for forensic examination.”

Mr Cunningham added that, on February 17 this year, cops were made aware the laptop had been examined, telling the court: “Along with evidence of extreme pornography – depicting bestiality – there was additional evidence that there was one Category A image and two Category C images involving children.

“There were 298 images and two videos of extreme pornography.”

The court heard how the sexual exploitation images of children contained female children between the ages of eight and 12-years-old.

There were also 29 “borderline” images of children found on the laptop which don’t fall into the Categories of A,B or C. These were of male and female children aged between 10 and 16 years old.

The examination of the laptop also revealed twisted Murphy had been searching and accessing websites of child pornography between October 17, 2020, and July 9 last year.

Mr Cunningham concluded: “There were 298 images and two videos of extreme pornography depicting both male and female adults engaging in sexual intercourse and activity with cattle, horses, canines, goats, donkeys, snakes and an octopus.

“There were no creation dates but the analysis showed that the accused was searching and accessing a website with extreme pornography between October 17, 2020, and July 9, 2022.”

Defence agent Terry Gallanagh told the court Murphy has been in custody for this matter since February 20.

Mr Gallanagh added: “He is a very limited man who was brought up by his mother who had her own difficulties and so he was looked after by his grandparents in Inchinnan.

“They were very prosocial but it is very clear that Mr Murphy and his mother suffer significant learning difficulties.

“His grandparents passed away and his mother died at a very young age which left him with nothing and no one. You will see his record is concerning.”

Sheriff Gillian Craig stated: “I want to know more about you and what disposals are available to me. Particularly the consideration of an extended sentence so I will defer for reports but I’m not making any promises.”

Sentence was deferred for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report until June 20. Murphy was placed on the sex offenders’ register ad interim with the duration to be decided on at the next hearing.
