A convicted killer has been found guilty of a murder bid on his girlfriend.
At the High Court in Glasgow Jamie Cameron, 26, was convicted of abducting and assaulting 24-year-old Klaudia Basinka and attempting to murder her on October 20, 2019, at a flat in Boyd Street and a house in Royal Avenue, both Largs, Ayrshire.
Miss Basinka suffered bruising to her body, her right ear was almost severed, tendons on her hand were damaged and she had a blunt force injury to her left eyebrow which required plastic surgery.
Asked by prosecutor Graeme Jessop to explain the injuries to Miss Basinka Cameron said: “It was by accident why would I want to cut her.
“My intention was to kill myself and she was getting in the way.”
However, the jury did not believe him and convicted him of attempted murder.
Cameron who had been on a drink and drugs binge attacked Miss Basinka after they argued.
Mr Jessop said to Cameron: “You became angry and assaulted her,” and he replied: “Angry about wanting to self destruct. The injuries to her were not intentional.”
Judge John McCormick told Cameron: “You have been convicted of attempted murder and you have a record that does you no favours. You have a conviction for culpable homicide.”
He deferred sentence on Cameron, who is in Barlinnie Prison, until next moth for background reports to be prepared.
The court heard that in addition to the culpable homicide conviction for killing former councillor William McLachlan in Largs in 2014 with a sword for which he was sentenced to five years Cameron also has convictions for violence.
Defence QC Ian Duguid said: “I will defer my comments until this case calls again save to say that in the culpable homicide it was the deceased who brought the sword to the fight.”
