Convicted rapist hurls expletive in NSW court

A convicted rapist who evaded Queensland authorities after removing his electronic monitoring bracelet has delivered an expletive-laden message in court ahead of his extradition interstate.

Damien Kennedy, 28, had been on the run for two days after removing his tracking bracelet during a supervised visit in Salisbury, south of Brisbane, on Monday.

He was required to wear the device for community safety due to his history of rape, attempted rape, and assault.

Kennedy was arrested yesterday in Wollongong, south of Sydney, after highway patrol officers conducted a routine vehicle stop.

Prior to his arrest, the fugitive had been taunting authorities on social media, with a post claiming he was in the central Queensland town of Rockhampton.

"Come and get me morther [sic] f***ers," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Kennedy will spend a second night in custody in New South Wales, after appearing in the Wollongong Local Court on Thursday afternoon via audio visual link.

He sat quietly on the screen as he was formally refused bail, but when the magistrate mentioned his pending extradition to Queensland, Kennedy said "f*** Queensland".

Detectives from the Queensland Police Service [QPS] corrective service unit will accompany Kennedy interstate on Friday morning, where he is due to front Brisbane Magistrates Court.

QPS detectives declined to comment following the court appearance, except to thank NSW Police for the fugitive's arrest.

Earlier this week, Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan said there were "no ifs, no buts" about offenders serving at least one year behind bars for removing trackers.
