Convicted paeodophile caught with MORE indecent pictures of children

A convicted paedophile was caught with more indecent pictures of children on a laptop he failed to declare to the police.

Jamie Buchanan, 32, was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that required him to inform the authorities of any computers he owned.

However, following a search of his address, officers found a Lenovo laptop, Manchester Crown Court heard.

“That laptop was subject to analysis, and the defendant was interviewed but then released under investigation,” prosecutor Duncan Wilcox said.

“Found on the laptop were two category A images, three category B images and 15 category C images.

“There were also 581 prohibited images of children.”

Police then attended at his home in Northenden and arrested him for possession of the images.

Buchanan has since pleaded guilty to breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, three offences of making indecent photos of children and making prohibited images of children.

He was said to have five previous convictions for nine offences, including making indecent images and other breaches of the order.

At the time he was subject to a suspended sentence, which he was handed in November 2017 after being found with 72 category A indecent images of children.

Mitigating on behalf of Buchanan, Michael Goldwater said: “He is a repeat offender and I have to concede that the only option to the court is an immediate custodial sentence.

“He is a repeat offender - that is a fact that is not in his favour.

“He is an isolated young man, it’s incredible how many sad and isolated people end up committing offences of this type.”

Mr Goldwater added that his client suffers with depression and became reclusive, ‘settled into bedroom life’ and started playing on the computer which led to the ‘sexual behaviours’.

“It’s up to him to sort this out, nobody can do it for him.”

Sentencing, Recorder Jeremy Lasker said: “One of the aggravating features this court will take into account is that of repeat offending.

“You have been given chances in the past to take the assistance, but in recent history you failed to do so.

“If you commit further offences it’s likely you will get longer sentences - you will know this.”

Buchanan, of Palatine Road, was jailed for 28 months, made the subject of a new Sexual Harm Prevention order for five yeas, and must sign onto the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
