A Tory MP who lied over his links to a sex website used a knife-wielding criminal as his campaign chief.
Jamie Wallis won his seat in Bridgend, Wales, in last December’s poll by just 1,000 votes thanks to election manager Gordon Lewis.
But it has now emerged Mr Lewis, 52, was given a 16-month suspended sentence four years earlier when he threatened to kill his own son with a knife and a baseball bat.
He admitted affray and two charges of common assault in 2015 relating to a violent outburst at a party the year before.
A court heard he “took exception” when a guest was sick and picked up the bat and knife before chasing his son outside.
A judge at Cardiff Crown Court, who said the incident “defied belief”, also questioned whether it showed Mr Lewis was lying about being entitled to disability benefit.
Mr Lewis’ defence lawyer said he had drunk too much and had problems with anger management.
Despite this Mr Lewis was used by serial entrepreneur Mr Wallis, 36, to help him unseat Labour ’s Madeleine Moon.
A month later the Conservatives faced calls to expel the new MP from the party after it emerged he had formerly had a business interest in website sugardaddy.com.
Labour MP Jess Phillips set up an online petition, saying “sugar daddy” was a euphemism for exploitation of women by powerful men.
It was also reported that 10 companies where Mr Wallis was or is a director were the subject of over 800 complaints to trading standards.
It is understood Mr Lewis was a volunteer campaign co-ordinator, not a paid employee.
Mr Wallis said: “Gordon Lewis is not and has never been a member of my Parliamentary staff.”
Mr Lewis declined to comment.
