'Unpredictable' killer who went missing from mental health hospital is found

A convicted killer who fled through North East England after leaving his secure mental health hospital has been found.

A manhunt was launched after Michael Errington left The Priory Hospital, in Middleton St George, Darlington, at around 8am on April 27 on approved leave from the premises but did not return.

He's now been caught in Edinburgh. Police earlier confirmed he travelled there via Newcastle Central Station.

The 51-year-old has been living at the secure mental health hospital for the past nine years after serving 18 years in prison for manslaughter.

There were fears he had not taken his medication since Saturday, making him potentially aggressive and unpredictable.

Members of the public were warned not to approach him.

Police traced his movements and discovered he travelled from Darlington to Newcastle using public bus services.

He took the train to Edinburgh Waverley station,arriving at at 2.38pm on Saturday where he was captured on CCTV.

He then left the station via the Princes Street exit and turned left towards the castle.

It is not known where he went once he left Edinburgh Waverley station.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson confirmed he was found at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.
