Convicted killer found at McDonald's two weeks after escaping from prison

A murderer on the run from prison was captured after being spotted at a Southport McDonald’s restaurant.

Convicted killer Thomas Parkinson absconded from HMS Kirkham last month, with Lancashire Police then waiting a week before appealing to find the dangerous offender .

The Preston man was convicted in 2007 as a teenager after stabbing Shaun Higgins at a house party in his home city. Parkinson, who had not been invited to the party, stabbed Mr Higgins in the back with a large kitchen knife after being asked to leave.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital but later died.

Parkinson had been serving the final two years of a life sentence when he went missing on April 24 and police warned that he could be violent and should not be approached by members of the public.
