Convicted dealer described as 'mover and shaker' in Manchester drugs network sentenced for assault and driving offence

A convicted drug dealer assaulted a man and failed to give a sample of breath to police, a court heard.

But Blake Donnellan, 36, has avoided going back to jail after he was handed a community order.

Donnellan, who is originally from Manchester, was jailed a decade ago for 15 years for his part in a multi-million-pound operation to smuggle cocaine into the South West, reports Plymouth Live.

Drugs with an estimated street value of £1 million and nearly £100,000 in cash were seized by Devon and Cornwall Police in 2009 and 2010.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Donnellan was the 'mover and shaker' in the network and the link between the drugs coming down from Manchester to Plymouth and onwards to Cornwall.

Donnellan absconded from an open prison, having been granted a temporary licence, on Christmas Day, 2016.

It was later revealed that while he was in jail he used his Facebook page to brag about sports cars, drugs and bling.

He had been banned from entering Devon and Cornwall for ten years by an Anti-Social Behaviour Order in 2006.

Now Donnellan has been dragged back before the courts after more offences this summer.

He admitted assaulted a man by beating in Plymouth on August 29.

Donnellan, now living in Dartmoor View, Saltash, also pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle and then failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis that same day.

Police suspected that he had committed a traffic offence.

He had been due to face city magistrates early last month but failed to attend because of a suspected case of coronavirus.

The bench last week handed him an 18-month community order with 180 hours unpaid work and probation's Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, ordered to pay £50 compensation, £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.
