Convicted burglar raided home and stole a laptop, watches and a nightdress

A convicted burglar has been told to prepare for a lengthy prison term.

Sanjay Patel appeared at Bristol Crown Court via video link on Friday, October 16.

The 41-year-old, of Brigstocke Road in St Pauls, pleaded guilty to the burglary of a home in Gloucester Road, Almondsbury, on September 2.

He admitted breaking in and stealing a Del laptop computer, a safe, two watches, an Apple iPod, pillow case and nightdress.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting emergency worker PC Rory Everitt on September 3.

Rodney Wilson, defending, said his client faces a mandatory three-year jail term unless circumstances prevail which would make such a sentence unjust.

He said his client lived in a hostel, supervised by the Probation Service, and they were aware of the depression and other illness which he suffers with.

Mr Wilson asked for sentencing to be adjourned pending completion of a psychiatric report and an update from Patel's offender manager.

Judge James Patrick acceded to the application and adjourned sentence until December 2.

He told Patel: "You should prepare yourself for a lengthy prison sentence.

"The court will look for documents from any other source.

"I make no promises."
