Converse has released it's latest sports shoe range - and they change colour when in the sun

Iconic sports shoe maker Converse has released pictures of it's latest collaboration - trainers which change colour when exposed to the sun.

Artist Joshua Vides and Chinatown Market’s Michael Cherman developed two original variations of the Chuck 70, a silhouette built in the 1970s based on the iconic basketball player Chuck Taylor.

The new take on the Chuck 70 changes colour when exposed to UV light and is made of a light-sensitive, multi-tone upper, with the interchangeable Velcro panels done in custom colours.

The intriguing new shoes were first unveiled on Instagram earlier this week, showing how the fabric changes colour to a combination of blue, orange and pink when placed under a UV torch, reports the Mirror.

The post has since  drawn gushing comments from impressed fans, with Chinatown Market founder and designer Mike Cherman speaking to Sneaker News about the incredible technology.

He said, "I think that's what's so fun about this project. It makes the shoe more than just a shoe. It's a conversation pieces, something that's unique the wearer."

If you do want to get your hands on a pair of the unique rainbow shoes yourself, the collection is set to launch  on the Chinatown Market website on July 20 at 8.01am.

"These hues change in their own way, and some colours will last longer while others will last for a shorter time period.

"It's the beauty of the shoes: how unique they are.

"It changes with you. You go to a music festival, the shoes are all bright and crazy in the sunlight, and the moment you step inside a tent, they go back to their pastel base and are different. That's what's so fun."
