Conversations with Friends: Release date, where to watch the new TV show and the reviews so far

Conversations with Friends is gearing up for its hotly anticipated release. Expectations for the series are high, as it is the latest adaptation of Sally Rooney's writing, something which saw massive success with Normal People in the early months of the pandemic when it made waves around the world.

With Conversation With Friend's premiere just around the corner, here is everything you need to know about the series.

When will Conversations with Friends be on TV?

Conversations with Friends premieres on BBC Three and Hulu this Sunday, May 15. It will then be shown on RTE One and RTE Player on Wednesday, May 18 at 9.35pm.

How many episodes of Conversations with Friends are there?

Conversations with Friends will air over six weeks with two new episodes each Wednesday night on RTE One. There will be a total of 12 episodes of the series, based on Sally Rooney's 2017 novel debut.

What is Conversations with Friends about?

Based on the best-selling book, Conversations with Friends follows 21-year-old Dublin based college student Frances who, along with her friend Bobbi, becomes involved in the life of a married couple, Melissa and Nick.

Frances grows close to Nick and Bobbi gets closer to Melissa, causing tensions and taking audiences on a journey of lust and heartbreak.

Who is in Conversations with Friends

Frances is played by Alison Oliver, an emerging talent from the Lir Academy in Dublin. This will be one of Alison's first on-screen roles, but she has previously appeared in various theatre productions such as The Merchant of Venice.

26-year-old Sasha Lane plays Bobbi. Sasha is known Marvel fans as she acted alongside Tom Hiddleston in the Disney+ series Loki. She also appeared in 2016's American Honey alongside Shia LaBeouf.

Joe Alwyn, who is currently dating music star Taylor Swift and has co-written some of her songs, portrays Nick, who has an affair with Frances. Joe is familiar to audiences for credits such as The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots and Harriet.

Finally, Jemima Kirke plays Melissa. Audiences will know Jemima as Jessa Johansson on series Girls and Hope Haddon in Sex Education.

Conversations with Friends reviews

A number of reviewers have had the opportunity to see the series ahead of its release and the reviews overall seem positive.

Irish Times Writer Ed Power hails it as "superior to Normal People", although he didn't have great praise of Joe Alwyn's Dublin accent.

In saying that, Then Independent only gave the series two out of five stars.

We'll have to wait for this weekend to find out for ourselves if it's any good.
