After the Arizona Cardinals acquired receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Houston Texans, it was reported that the All-Pro wideout is seeking a new contract.
The Cardinals likely had to know about his desire for a new contract and still made the deal.
Thus far, there has been no news of formal talks, but conversations have begun, according to chairman and team president Michael Bidwill.
He was asked about it in a video press conference from State Farm Stadium recently.
“I think when you look at DeAndre, he’s certainly somebody that’s playing at the top of his game and I know that Steve has had some conversations about that,” he said.
Hopkins currently has three years remaining on his contract. He will make $12.5 million in 2020, $13.5 million in 2021 and $13.9 million in 2022. He has no guaranteed money in the final three years of his contract.
