Controversial work from home law in Wales set to be dropped

The controversial work from home law in Wales is set to be dropped.

In December Welsh Government made working from home a legal requirement for workers who could "reasonably" carry out their job from their house.

Business Live revealed the new regulation and that it came with a £60 fine for those who broke the rules.

Employers also faced fines for £1,000 for not allowing staff to work at home if it reasonably practical to carry out the job from their house - rising to £10,000 for persistent offences.

Welsh Government came under fire from unions and opposition politicians.

But First Minister mark Drakeford hit back at claims that the rules are unfair and claimed they are "designed to protect workers, not to penalise them".

Now Welsh Government has said that from Friday January 28 "working from home would remain important but it would no longer be a legal requirement".

This means any threat of a fine is gone but people are advised to work at home where possible to help reduce the spread of the virus.
