THANE: Maharashtra housing minister Jitendra Awhad on Wednesday filed a criminal case against the religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj over the "controversial" remarks on Mahatma Gandhi.
Awhad, personally walked into the Naupada police station along with a number of NCP activists of Thane city and registered the complaint.
Awhad said, "the complaint is with regards to abusive words used on Mahatma Gandhi, support to terrorism and glorifying Nathuram Godse. I cannot even spell out the words he used for Gandhi. He has been repeatedly using provocative utterances which are objectionable," Awhad added.
Awhad however, avoided the questions on the Sanatan Dharam and also the present feud between the MVA and governor and said that he has come "here" to register a complaint against Kalicharan and nothing more.
A police officer at the Naupada police station confirmed that an offense under sections various under the Indian penal code has been filed.
