Controversial 'Ahhh Soul' billboard in Cardiff that features Kim Jong-un to be removed

A giant advertising billboard for a food company featuring Kim Jong-un is going to be removed after causing controversy.

The advert for the Soulful Food Company appeared on Cardiff's Newport Road this week.

But the London-based food business that provides vegan meals has now apologised for any offence caused by the poster that features the North Korean leader with a bowl of food and the words "Ahhhhh, Soul

(Rob Browne)

One person wrote on social media: "I just wanna know why Soulful Food Co thought such a racist ad would be a good idea in November 2020."

Another said: "How did it get to this point that NO ONE on your team recognised that this was racist? Do you have any non-white people on it and what positions do they hold? Absolutely ridiculous."

But another wrote: "The best bit of advertising ever. All the reviews prove the point that people actually notice things especially when it is controversial for some people. I personally think it is brilliant and brightened up my day."

Others described it as "hilarious" and that it had brightened up their day.

A spokesman for the company said: "We’re really sorry we’ve caused offence and realise we have made a misjudgment with this advert.

"Our intention was to highlight the world needs more soul right now, but we got the message wrong. We will be taking them down as soon as possible."
