'Controlled drugs' among medical supplies left by motorway

An investigation has been launched after medical supplies were left by a motorway. A healthcare firm has confirmed one of its drivers was involved in a "road incident" which led to a roll cage of items being strewn on a grass verge.

It is claimed the supplies contained controlled drugs. Motorists spotted boxes and packages lying about before police were called to the scene.

Electrical engineer Dave MacDonald, 46, who came across the items, said: "There were loads of controlled drugs there like amitriptyline and codeine. You never know who might have found them and what they might do with them."

The incident happened on the morning of March 21 on the M90 in Scotland.

A spokesperson for Alliance Healthcare said: “We can confirm that one of our drivers was involved in a road incident on the morning of Tuesday, March 21, 2023. An internal investigation is underway and we are cooperating with the police on the matter.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.40am to a report of debris on the A90 Friarton Bridge, Perth. Officers attended and the road was closed for a short time for the items to be cleared.”
