Contract stalemate boosts Chelsea's chances of luring Belgian star as Michy Batshuayi faces exit

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Tuesday, May 5.

Blues could move for Napoli star as chase for new attacker continues

Frank Lampard’s continued pursuit of a forward could see a move for Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

The Beligian is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and could be a cost effective option in these uncertain times.

Chelsea are rumoured to be after the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Jadon Sancho however, it is unclear if a big money purchase this summer is realistic.

Mertens, 32, has scored 12 times in all competitions this season, including in both group matches against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Should the player not extend his stay in Naples, a move to Stamford Bridge could be beneficial for both parties.

Batshuayi heading for Chelsea exit

The hunt for a new striker will likely finally signal the end of Michy Batshuayi’s time at Stamford Bridge.

Belgian striker Batshuayi joined the club in 2016 for a reported £35 million, however has failed to nail down a regular place in the team after four years.

The 26-year-old has scored 25 times in 77 appearances for the Blues however, most of these have come from the bench and the player has had three loan spells since his arrival.

Winger Boga, who joined Chelsea as a schoolboy before moving to Sassuolo in 2018 after a series of loans, had been tipped for a return with the Blues inserting a buy-back clause into the original deal.

However, with the club set to make a formal approach, Goal report that Roma are already in contact with Boga’s representatives with a view to taking him to the Italian Capital.

The 23-year-old has scored 8 times in Serie A this season, catching the eye of a number of clubs.
