Contract details for Tennessee Titans new CB Johnathan Joseph

The Tennessee Titans added some much-needed depth and experience to their secondary after signing veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph to a one-year deal.

And now we know how much it will cost.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, Joseph’s deal is for $2 million and has $1.5 million guaranteed, but it’s loaded with incentives that could bring it up to $3.25 million.

That’s a pretty solid haul for Joseph, who is 36 years old and will be, at best, the third or fourth cornerback on the depth chart.

Joseph recently spoke to the media on a Zoom call and made it clear he isn’t coming here to be a savior, but rather to fit in wherever the team needs him, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“(My role) is to kind of fit in where need be,” Joseph said. “But at the same time, just be myself. I’m not coming in here to look to replace anybody, or do anything, or be the savior, or none of that. I’m just coming in here to do whatever my job is, whatever my role is, do that to the utmost. I think, obviously, Logan (Ryan) was a great player for those guys.”

Before he even puts the uniform on, Joseph already has plenty of familiarity with some of the Titans’ coaches.

He played under head coach Mike Vrabel and secondary coach Anthony Midget when both were on Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien’s coaching staff.

With his ability to play on the boundary, Joseph helps open things up for other corners like Adoree’ Jackson and Kristian Fulton to play in the slot when needed, and he’s like having a coach on the field thanks to his vast experience.

He may not have the same coverage skills and speed he had in his younger years, but Joseph still brings plenty of value to the table for the role the Titans need him to play.
