Contract details for new Packers RT Rick Wagner

The Green Bay Packers signed right tackle Rick Wagner to a two-year deal worth $11 million total, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

The deal includes a $3.5 million signing bonus, roster bonuses of up to $2.5 million and incentives and escalators worth $3.25 million. Wagner will have base salaries of $2.25 million each season of the deal. His $3.5 million signing bonus will be prorated over the two years of the deal.

Like Christian Kirksey’s deal, the Packers tied a lot of money into Wagner’s ability to stay on the field, providing a protective measure should he be injured or ineffective.

Wagner’s cap hit in 2020 will be $4,812,500, making him an affordable short-term replacement option for Bryan Bulaga. Also, the Packers should have an opportunity to get out of the deal at a relatively small cost if Wagner busts in 2020. A $1 million roster bonus is due the third league day of 2021, setting a deadline of sorts for the Packers.

Year Base Signing Roster Per game Workout Cap hit
2020 $2,250,000 $1,750,000 $562,500 $250,000 $4,812,500
2021 $2,250,000 $1,750,000 $1,000,000 $750,000 $250,000 $6,000,000

CPA Ken Ingalls assisted in creating structure of contract.
