Contract details for Chiefs new CB Antonio Hamilton

The Kansas City Chiefs recently added former New York Giants cornerback Antonio Hamilton on a one-year contract in free agency.

Hamilton figures to be competitive depth for the CB position and a starter on special teams at the gunner position. It’s worth noting that multiple reports said that Hamilton’s agent claims he took less to join the Chiefs. This deal is very affordable for Kansas City and basically amounts to a veteran salary for the fifth-year player.

Here’s a look at the base salary, signing bonus and cap numbers courtesy of Spotrac:

Year Base Salary Signing Bonus Cap Hit Dead Cap
2020 $910,000 $137,500 $887,500 $887,500

The great thing about Hamilton’s deal is that he won’t qualify for the compensatory pick formula. That means that the Chiefs still hold two of the 20201 compensatory picks they’ve earned so far in free agency. We’ll have to wait and see the contract details for Mike Remmers to ensure that they’ll keep both of the picks. Hamilton’s contract leaves Kansas City with just over $3 million in cap space, but that will also change once we know the details of Remmers’ one-year deal.

If Hamilton turns into a key contributor in Kansas City, they’ll feel really good about the value they got on this one-year deal. Expect Hamilton to be in the offseason cornerback competition for the Chiefs, especially if they don’t add another player in free agency. Right now, Charvarius Ward projects as the starting left cornerback in 2020, with Rashad Fenton occupying the slot. There is currently a vacancy at the right cornerback spot as Bashaud Breeland is a free agent.
