Contract details announced for Chargers LB Denzel Perryman

Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman agreed to a two-year extension for $12 million, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Perryman’s new deal will keep him in L.A. through 2020, which gives him enough time to prove he’s worthy enough to finish a full 16-game slate.

The second round selection of the 2015 draft, Perryman has stood out, especially in run defense, when he’s healthy. But he has missed 16 games over the past two seasons due to various lower body injuries.

The former Miami product has tallied 226 tackles (168 solo), 18.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions.

With the re-signing of Perryman, it does not mean that the position is solidified. General manager Tom Telesco has stated that there will be a big emphasis on the linebackers this offseason.

I’d expect them to look in free agency to bring in a low cost player, as well as still be in contention for drafting one in the first round.
