Items in a Westbury-on-Trym man's pants landed him before a judge.

Police acting on intelligence stopped a Nissan Juke being driven in Westbury Lane in April last year.

Bristol Crown Court heard front seat passenger Lee Freeman produced drugs from his trouser pocket and admitted more were stashed in his underwear.

The 47-year-old, of Grayling House in Canford Road, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Judge James Patrick jailed him for two years and two months.

He told Freeman: "You have an unusual criminal record and you were recently released on licence for an unrelated matter.

"Your life has been blighted by Class A drugs and you went back to your involvement with Class A drugs."

Charley Pattison, prosecuting, said police stopped the Nissan and found Freeman with 53 wraps of cocaine and 53 wraps of heroin, with a street value totalling £1,120.

He was also found in possession of just over £1,000 cash.

Miss Pattison told the court: "The Crown cannot prove he's doing anything other than holding drugs."

David Scutt, defending, said his client had been addicted to drugs for some years but had weaned himself off them recently.

Mr Scutt said: "There is the real prospect he will continue to do so with the assistance of various agencies."

Mr Scutt had suggested that a suspended sentence should be imposed.

He told the court: "That would act as a Sword of Damocles.

"He would know if he didn't comply he would be straight back into prison."
