Contact tracing taking place at seven schools in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area

Contact tracing is taking place at seven schools across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, the NHS confirm.

The Test and Protect team is carrying out COVID-19 contact tracing around the following schools in Glasgow and Renfrewshire: Wallace Primary, Renfrewshire; Todholm Primary, Renfrewshire; Carntyne Primary, Glasgow; St Albert’s Primary, Glasgow; St James Primary, Renfrewshire; Kelvinside Academy and Edinbarnet Primary School, West Dunbartonshire.

Public Health teams have systematically established a list of close contacts within each school. Test and Protect staff either have or now are contacting those identified as contacts.

These close contacts have been/are being advised to self-isolate and being given appropriate advice and support.

The NHS said "robust control measures" are in place within each of the schools, and there is currently no evidence of transmission within the schools themselves.

Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other pupils and staff can continue to attend as normal.

Dr Linda de Caestecker, Director of Public Health, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said:  “To control the spread of the virus it is essential that anyone contacted by Test and Protect follows the directions given including self-isolation. Anyone who may have been exposed is being given appropriate advice.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of continuing with the general measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 to themselves and to others. These include social distancing, regular handwashing, and being vigilant for symptoms. Anyone with symptoms should immediately self-isolate and seek a test.”
