Contact tracers at John Paul Academy in Glasgow called in over coronavirus concerns

Health officials are carrying out coronavirus testing at a secondary school in Summerston, Glasgow.

Test and Protect teams are contacting pupils and staff who may have come into contact with the virus, it was announced on Saturday.

The health board confirmed they are probing possible cases at the John Paul Academy - a Roman Catholic secondary school that serves Summerston, Maryhill, Ruchill, Possilpark and Milton and has a capacity of 800 pupils.

A NHS Greater Glasgow spokesman said there is no evidence at this time that the transmission was within the school itself.

However specialists have “systematically established a list of close contacts” of those affected.

The spokesman added: “Test and Protect staff are contacting those identified as contacts.

“These close contacts are being advised to self-isolate and being given appropriate advice and support.

“Robust control measures are in place within the school. Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other pupils and staff can continue to attend as normal.

“Our Test and Protect team continues to perform a vital role in contacting those who we believe to be close contacts of confirmed cases. Anyone who may have been exposed is being given appropriate advice.”

- Anyone with any one or more of the symptoms should immediately self-isolate and order a test on the NHS inform website www.nhsinform.scot or by calling 0800 028 2816.
