Consumer specialist reveals temperature reusable masks 'ideally need to be washed at'

This Morning's consumer specialist has warned that reusable face masks 'ideally need to be washed at 60 degrees' to maintain their effectiveness.

Alice Beer, the shows regular consumer advice specialist, aired caution to reusable face mask wearers during her segment on travel advice tips on Tuesday, July 21, revealing they can be high maintainance.

Speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Alice revealed airlines such as British Airways, suggest all masks need to be changed every four hours, meaning you'll need a few if you're travelling long haul.

You can see Alice's advice and the moment she reveals what temperatures you need to wash your mask at, in the video above.

Alice Beer, who was previously dubbed the 'face mask expert' by some fans of This Morning on Twitter, said Tupperware tubs of 'Clean' and 'Dirty' face masks, whether you're travelling abroad or not, to help you be as effective in the fight against coronavirus.

It was shortly after, showing off a travel savvy washing line, Alice revealed the advised washing instructions for your reusable masks:

"When you get to your destination, you're going to want to clean your mask.

"You've got to wash them in quite hot water, 40 to 60 degrees.

"60 ideally and you've got to let them dry, ideally in the sun would be great."

Sales of face masks increased after Boris Johnson revealed he would make it mandatory for most people in England to wear a face mask if they were going to the shops.

The majority of people, unless those who are exempt from wearing them, could be fined up to £100 if they attempt to use a shop in England from July 24 without a mask on.

This Morning returns from 10am every weekday morning.
