Land reclamation work for the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station from Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, to the Henoko district in Nago in the prefecture resumed on Friday after about a two-month suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Defense Ministry.

Construction had been halted since April 17, after a person involved in the construction was confirmed to be infected with the virus.

In waters off the coast, the earth carried by a ship was transferred to another vessel that can dock at a sea wall at the site, according to the ministry's Okinawa Defense Bureau.

The earth was expected to be placed onto the construction site in the afternoon.
