Construction work begins on new McDonald's in Long Eaton

Work is underway to build a new McDonald's restaurant in Long Eaton.

The drive-thru is being constructed on part of the Tesco Extra car park, on the corner of Waverley Street and Peel Street, with the aim of opening later this year.

Around 30 full-time and 35 part-time jobs are likely to be created.

Some people have raised concerns about the location of the new restuarant online, with fears over an increase in traffic and litter in the area.

However, others have said it could attract more people to the town and have described new jobs as positive for Long Eaton.

The site is on the opposite side of Waverley Street to chicken fast food giant KFC.

Erewash Borough Council's planning committee unanimously gave the proposal the green light in November 2018.

Officers said there was "no evidence" to suggest that road safety would be compromised.

They also noted the loss of parking spaces would be compensated for by a new car park at the rear of the neighbouring Aldi service yard.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: “We are pleased to be progressing with the works on this restaurant and our ambition is to open later in the year.”
