Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was confronted by a constituent Thursday night on her support for pursuing an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
The exchange occurred about 75 minutes into the town hall meeting, when a woman cut off another constituent, stood up and announced she was worried her question would not be heard. She claimed “there was no quid pro quo” involved in a July phone call between Trump and the Ukrainian president, and said she believed there is an “ongoing” British coup to unseat Trump.
The New York Democrat stopped her, insisting that the person she interrupted should be able to ask his question.
Returning to the impeachment question later during the town hall, Ocasio-Cortez told the crowd gathered in the Queens neighborhood of Corona that they should “read the transcript and come to [their] own conclusion.”
Ocasio-Cortez ended her response by saying that she has “heard loud and clear, from the majority of [her] constituents, where [they] stand on this issue” and her job is to “follow that in good and full faith.”
