The luxuriously serene Constance Hotels, celebrated for their exceptional guest experience, currently have three of their properties proudly holding Leading Hotels of the World status. One of these remarkable resorts, Constance Prince Maurice, is situated on the idyllic island of Mauritius.
Set on 60 acres, along the island’s beautiful northeast coast, Prince Maurice is far removed from the busier, more tourist-driven northwest.
A great time to visit Mauritius coincides with the clocks going back in the UK. As the days grow shorter in London, the Mauritian summer is just beginning. Days are comfortably warm, hovering in the mid-20s, while gentle overnight showers nourish the island’s lush, sub-tropical landscapes, creating an ideal escape for those seeking both tranquility and adventure.

Where is it?
After a 12 hour direct flight from London, you will be delighted if you decide to start your holiday in one of Constance’s private cars. They’ll pick you up from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport in the southeast of the 790 square-mile island, in a temperature-controlled BMW with Wifi. An ice-cold orange juice and a dainty box of vanilla and coconut macarons — freshly made by the hotel's pastry chefs — will await you.
The drive takes an hour and offers beautiful views of the island. When you pull in, the expansive palm-lined driveway is surrounded by gardens growing fresh fruits and vegetables for the hotel's kitchens, and the Constance’s very own beehives give you just a small taste of what to expect upon arrival. The delightful staff welcome you into the elegantly grand and peaceful lobby, guiding you up the stone steps to the breathtaking sea view which opens up in front of you. As you sit down to check-in, the reception team will proffer a refreshing and delicious homemade lemongrass iced tea served in a copper pineapple.
The Style

Finding the perfect balance between elegant and tropical, Constance Prince Maurice draws inspiration from the island’s rich spice route heritage. The design is classic luxury, as displays of colourful fresh flowers burst into view while water features add a sense of calm, and subtle touches of Feng Shui create an atmosphere of refined balance.
As one of Mauritius’ key exports, sugarcane is widely used in many ways across the island, even its dried leaves are used to craft the hotel’s signature thatched roofs.
Along the shoreline, villas sit neatly nudging the sand, each with a private terrace and heated pool just steps from the bay. Even the spacious junior suites are only a few paces further from the warm white sands, perfect for a barefoot stroll at sunset.
Looking ahead, the resort is planning a renovation and expansion during its seasonal closure, unveiling newly modernised villas in November 2027 — a perfect excuse to return to this island sanctuary.
Which room?

Prince Maurice boasts 64 Junior and 12 Family Suites as well as 12 villas — take your pick from one on the beach or one on stilts over the lagoon.
There is also the spectacular Princely Villa — the hotel's most superior accommodation offering. It’s definitely worth splashing out for a beach villa with your own heated private pool — taking a dip after dinner under the stars listening to the palm trees sway gently in the breeze is truly magical.
Way bigger than your average London maisonette, each villa includes a spacious living room, a gloriously lofty bedroom that opens out onto your private terrace — not one, but two bathrooms, and very generous wardrobe space. In the primary bathroom, sink into the deepest soaking bathtub with powerful massage jets while you rest your head on a cushy bath pillow or rinse salty sea water off in your outdoor rainfall shower or your indoor one!
Slather yourself in bergamot scented Constance bath products at your double vanity sink before rolling into the super king-size bed with cool, crisp white sheets. The best thing about the villas by far is that you can take a few steps out of bed and be standing on the beach by your reserved sunlounger, which comes complete with a silent buzzer button to request a cold coconut water, a dry towel or Madagascan vanilla ice cream.
Food & Drink

Quality over quantity is the focus at Prince Maurice with three restaurants all offering a unique gastronomical experience. No need to book a table at Archipel, make sure to visit on a Wednesday or Sunday to experience one of the chef’s signature special menus and before heading back to your suite, stop by the Lotus Lounge gin bar to listen to live piano music as you sip an aperitif.
Download the hotel’s app to keep up to date with the weekly restaurant program and book a table at Le Barachois and take a twilight stroll along the winding elevated pier, past the over-water villas on stilts to the floating restaurant.
The lagoon in which the restaurant sits is a conservation area therefore no fishing or swimming is allowed, ensuring that the environment is abundant with marine life including three reef sharks, if you’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse of them. With frequently visiting Michelin starred chefs in the kitchen, the dishes are as impressive as the setting itself.
And finally, Asian — with adjoining Laguna bar, where you should order a Maurice de Nassau rum cocktail or a Mauritian Phoenix beer to perfectly accompany the spicy tuna maki sushi and crunchy cucumbers grown on site for your poke bowl. Arrange a wine tasting experience to explore the largest wine cellar in the Indian Ocean with one of Constance’s award winning sommeliers.
Breakfast is a buffet with seemingly endless choice at Archipel, including omelette and pancake stations. Follow this up with a teaspoon of Constance nutmeg honey in locally grown vanilla tea — a must to accompany the cake du jour.
If you are staying in a beach villa with a private pool don’t miss the chance to order a floating breakfast at least once and wake up to a gigantic basket of delicacies of your choosing bobbing gently along the surface of your pool, which is bound to become the most replied to Instagram Story of your trip.
Facilities

If your sea legs are feeling strong there are a wide array of complimentary water-based activities including pedalo hire, paddle boarding and waterskiing. If that sounds a bit too ambitious, take a dip in the two main pools or try the icy plunge pool after working out at the wellness centre.
Soothe aching muscles after the long flight in the incredible spa with a steam and sauna. Treat yourself to a massage or a Sisley facial and experience the open-air treatment rooms for live ASMR of birdsong and crashing waves.
If you prefer to keep your feet planted firmly on land, there are also wide variety of bookable program of activities such as lessons with a pro on the tennis courts, bike hire for adults and kids, archery lessons or a bit of target practice on the putting green before catching the shuttle which runs every 30 minutes to the 18-hole championship golf course based in the heart of an indigenous forest at Prince Maurice’s sister resort Constance Belle Mare Plage.
There’s a library for when you finish your beach read early and need to swap it out, multiple luxury clothing, jewellery and souvenir stores and even an art gallery. Little touches like a free post box to send a post card home is just one example of the thoughtful approach to guest experience.
Extracurricular
Although you will find it terribly hard to leave the comfort of your sunlounger, the hotel staff will encourage you, without pressure, to venture out and experience the beautiful island they are proud to call home. At guest services in the lobby you can plan a day trip to the south of the island with a private driver for the day — who will double as an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide.
Depart after breakfast to make the most of the day and visit the dormant volcano Trou aux Cerfs, spot a long-tailed macaque in the pine trees then head to one of the colourful Hindu temples. Stop at the Bois Chéri tea plantation or if you prefer something stronger the Rhumerie de Chamarel Restaurant & Rum Distillery where you can learn the history of sugar cane on the island.
Don’t miss the waterfall at Chamarel National Park, at around 100 meters it is the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius. Snap a selfie with the giant tortoises at the Seven-Coloured Earth Geopark as you sip on a freshly squeezed sugarcane juice. End the day watching the golden sunset on La Morne beach and if you really want to push the boat out, a helicopter flight over La Morne to see the viral optical illusion of the underwater waterfall can also be arranged for you by the hotel.
