Consistent Philippe ready for BBL final

Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques isn't expecting acclaim or accolades to affect Josh Philippe's approach to the Big Bash League final.

Philippe announced himself as a future star a year ago, when he capped a productive BBL campaign by earning man-of-the-match honours in the final ahead of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and other guns.

The potent keeper-batsman was rewarded with his maiden Indian Premier League contract.

Philippe was part of Australia's enlarged squad on last year's white-ball tour of England, while he is expected to make his international debut during the Twenty20 series in New Zealand that follows the BBL final.

The 23-year-old was last week included in the BBL's team of the tournament, while this week he was awarded the BBL player of the tournament.

"It's really good recognition for him," Henriques said on the eve of the SCG final, which starts at 7.40pm AEDT on Saturday.

"For a fantastic season but also last year.

"He has taken his consistency up a notch. For a young man like himself to get that, that's the reward of a lot of hard work.

"Something to show for everything that he has done then ... (the final) is another opportunity for him to go out there and show his consistency."

James Vince's unbeaten 98 hogged the headlines after the Sixers crushed Perth Scorchers in last Saturday's qualifying final.

But Philippe set the tone at the start of the chase, scoring 13 runs off Jhye Richardson's opening over of the innings.

The highlight was a seemingly effortless six that soared over the leg-side rope after the BBL's leading wicket-taker delivered a 148.3 km/h bouncer.

Philippe will undoubtedly be the most vital scalp for Perth yet again the SCG, where several Western Australia teammates will be gunning for him.

"These boys know him really well," Perth opener Liam Livingstone said.
