Consett fashion retailer set to be transformed into business units

The former home of a fashion retailer in Consett is set to be transformed into new business units.

Earlier this year, a planning application was lodged with Durham County Council to revamp the M&Co building on Front Street in the town.

According to planning documents, trade ceased at the site in mid-2020 and the building has been vacant since.

As part of a bid to attract new retailers into the town, new plans aimed to subdivide the building into four smaller business units.

Two new entrance ways to the front of the building were also proposed as part of the scheme, alongside new partitions between the units.

Following consultation, council planners deemed the scheme acceptable and approved the plans on April 13, 2021.

The applicant is named in planning documents as Perform Media Ltd.

Under planning conditions, the conversion works must be brought forward within the next three years.
