Police have said the road is expected to remain closed for some time.

Bus services are being diverted away from the area.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 11.31am to the Delves Lane area to reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and pedestrian.

“We sent two ambulances and requested the Great North Air Ambulance support.”

A spokeswoman for the Durham Constabulary was unable to give further details at this time but said the road would be “closed for the foreseeable future”.
