Conservatives and the Greens target Bristol on the campaign trail

Bristol was once again highlighted heavily on the general election campaign trail as we have just over a week to go until polling day.

The city welcomed high profile visitors from both the Conservative and Green parties on Tuesday (December 3).

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid was in Avonmouth, while the Green Party’s first ever MP Caroline Lucas spent some time atop the roof of We The Curious in central Bristol.

It was the second media call in the city for both politicians during this general election campaign. Bristol Live interviewed both Mr Javid and Ms Lucas when they were last here three weeks ago.

Last time Mr Javid took a trip down memory lane when he stopped by the shop below his former childhood in Stapleton Road.

But during Tuesday’s visit the focus was much more on trying to reclaim the marginal seat of Bristol North West which was won by Labour’s Darren Jones in the 2017 election.

Mr Javid stopped by flavouring factory Plant-Ex based in Avonmouth for a tour. He posed for photos with Mark Weston, the parliamentary candidate for the constituency, as well as West of England metro mayor Tim Bowles outside where he answered questions, before heading indoors for a tour.

Meanwhile Ms Lucas was once again out campaigning with Bristol West Green candidate Carla Denyer.

Three weeks ago the pair were out canvassing close to Bristol Green Party HQ in Cheltenham Road.

This time they picked a venue with more of a view. The pair headed to the roof of We The Curious, in Millennium Square, where the attraction has installed a Solar Farm.

It seemed to be the perfect location to announce the party’s ambitions for renewable developments and projects.

Bristol has had a number of high profile visitors during this election campaign. Prime Minister Boris Johnson headed to Bristol Port in Avonmouth while Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was on the campaign train in Filton and Bradley Stoke in early November.
