Conor Washington to Hearts as Northern Ireland striker signs two-year deal with Scottish club

Northern Ireland striker Conor Washington has completed his move to Hearts.

The Scottish Premiership side have confirmed that Washington has agreed a two-year deal.

The Tynecastle club fended off competition from a number of clubs in England, after Washington had become available following his release from English Premier League new boys Sheffield United.

He follows the signing of Craig Halkett, who at the end of the season penned a pre-contract from Livingston.

The 27-year-old will add much-needed firepower, with the Gorgie side having only Uche Ikpeazu and Steven MacLean up front.Steven Naismith is also expected to sign – but Washington’s deal has been announced first.

Washington has played for a host of clubs but really made his name at Peterborough United, where he scored 27 goals in 82 appearances. He then won a move to QPR before switching to Brammal Lane.

There he failed to net last season in 15 appearances.

Washington helped Northern Ireland record back-to-back wins over Estonia and Belarus in this month's Euro 2020 qualifiers, scoring in the 2-1 victory in Tallinn.

Washington will link up with Northern Ireland coach Austin McPhee and defender Michael Smith who are both at Hearts.
