Conor Washington reportedly close to signing for Hearts

Hearts are reportedly trying to sign Conor Washington after his release from Sheffield Utd.

Austin McPhee has been trying to convince the Northern Ireland striker to move to Tynecastle since the end of the season, reports the Daily Record .

And it’s understood progress has been made with Hearts confident they’ve almost done enough to sign him.

The Blades were promoted automatically to the English Premier League and informed Washington that his contract won’t be renewed.

The former QPR man has interest from down south but is apparently impressed with what he’s heard from Craig Levein .

A permanent deal for Steven Naismith is in the pipeline, but the Jambos still require reinforcements up front to add to Uche Ikpeazu and Steven MacLean after the disastrous signing of David Vanecek didn’t work. The Czech was moved on this month.

Jamie Walker is also expected to join after he negotiates his departure from Wigan Athletic.

The pair would join Craig Halkett as the new summer recruits with Levein targeting three of four "quality" players in order to improve his first eleven.

Left back Aidy White is also nearing full fitness ahead of making his Hearts debut after signing earlier this year.
