Conor Washington nears Hearts exit as striker closes in on two-year Charlton deal

Hearts striker Conor Washington is close to agreeing a two-year deal with Charlton Athletic.

Talks are at an advanced stage between the League One outfit and the Northern Ireland international and could be concluded later today.

The 28-year-old has been keen to return to England since Hearts dropped down to the Championship.

Head coach Robbie Neilson has also allowed Washington to go because he is one of their higher earners.

It will free up cash, along with Sean Clare’s move to Oxford United, for Neilson to bring in his own players for their promotion push.

Washington was a key signing when Craig Levein convinced him to move from Sheffield United last summer.

The striker’s season however was wrecked by a hamstring injury and then the early season closure because of COVID-19, that ended up costing Hearts their place in the top-flight.

Charlton want Washington to help them back into the Championship at the first time of asking, after they lost star striker Lyle Taylor on freedom of contract.
