Conor Washington in Hearts transfer sweat as Charlton power struggle threatens Jambos exit

In-demand Hearts striker Conor Washington has been left sweating over his move to Charlton Athletic.

The Northern Ireland international is back in Edinburgh, waiting to see if the English Football League will give his switch the green light.

The English League One outfit have agreed a five-figure fee with Robbie Neilson 's side and a two-year-contract with the player but the deal currently hangs in the balance.

There is currently a power struggle at Charlton and the EFL between owners ESI and current chairman Paul Elliott and club lawyer Chris Farnell.

The EFL have put together an independent panel to look into the possible take-over but because of their perilous position the league will have to give permission for the Addicks to register any new players from outside of their existing squad.

That has left Washington’s switch hanging in the balance.

He hopes to find out over the next 24 to 48 hours but is currently back in Scotland with the Championship side.

The forward still has a year left on his Tynecastle contract but is one of their higher earners.

Washington failed to hit the heights in his first season after a serious hamstring injury, a return to a struggling team and the season then being called early by the COVID-19 pandemic.
