Conor Washington called up to Northern Ireland squad for Luxembourg and Germany qualifiers

Another of Hearts' strikers has been called up to represent his country in the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

After Steven Naismith was included in the Scotland squad for the first time in nearly a year, Conor Washington has been called up to Michael O’Neill’s 25-man squad to play Luxembourg and Germany next month.

Washington netted his first goal for the Jambos in their 2-1 Betfred Cup quarter-final victory at Motherwell, and followed that up with a late consolation in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Celtic Park.

Washington has 18 caps for Northern Ireland and has scored three times for his country, and will be keen to add to both after getting up and running since joining Hearts in the summer.

Teammate Michael Smith has also been included. The right back was withdrawn early during the loss to Celtic with a tight hamstring.

He isn't expected to be out for any extended period of time and Craig Levein is hopeful he will be available to face Hamilton this weekend.
