Conor McGregor vows not to make the same mistakes again in potential Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch

Conor McGregor has once again claimed that he will defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov with the right preparation.

McGregor has been vocal about his lack of preparedness for the pair's showdown in 2018, when the Russian dominated for a submission win.

Lightweight kingpin Khabib has dismissed talk of a potential rematch ahead of his April 18 showdown with Tony Ferguson - a fight that Dana White says will go ahead outside of the US.

White is also keen to set up the McGregor-Khabib rematch and a massive cash windfall for the fight promotion.

Speaking to Bleacher Report, the Crumlin man said: "I will admit that the fight before UFC 246, I did not train properly and was not in perfect condition.

"Call it what you want. I am hungry today. Hungry like a man who has not eaten for weeks.

"When I set my mind to something, there is nothing I can not accomplish. It is that power of belief that makes up the winners."

When pressed on the elements of his gameplan that were undone by his rival, McGregor gave little away.

He continued: "That is a very good question, and I will simply say I was not fully prepared.

"It proves that anything can happen in the fight game. You can trust that I will not make the same mistakes next time.

"I came out well, and in an instant, things changed. It's as simple as that."

Fight boss White surprised the world of combat sport by claiming that the lightweight title fight set for April 18 between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov will go ahead amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“If you asked me questions 10 days ago, I could answer any question you threw at me. I don’t know a lot of things right now,” White told TSN.

“Think about this, Las Vegas shut down the casinos. I never thought I’d ever see that in my lifetime.

“But Khabib and Tony is going to happen. We’re going to figure that out, we’re going to make it happen.

"It’s just going to be a matter of how quickly we can get back to being normal.”
