Conor McGregor v Dustin Poirier 3 officially announced by UFC despite Dubliner 'cancelling' fight

Conor McGregor's trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier will take place on July 10 despite the Dubliner claiming he was walking away from the bout.

The lightweight rivals will clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of a 20,000 capacity crowd at UFC 264.

The announcement, made by UFC president Dana White, comes days after McGregor threatened to find another opponent following a huge social media row with Poirier, reports The Mirror.

White said: “I am so happy to finally be able to say that Vegas is back. This summer Las Vegas is open for business and on July 10 UFC 264 will be at the T-Mobile Arena at 100 per cent capacity at 20,000 fans.

“This fight will be headlined by the third fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.”

Poirier accused McGregor of walking away from his commitment to donate $500,000 to his rival's charity with the Notorious claiming he was waiting to be told how the money would be spent.

McGregor then launched into a furious tirade and told Poirier he would be fighting someone else this summer.

But just 48 hours later, the third instalment of their rivalry has officially been announced as the headline act in Sin City.

McGregor will attempt to avenge his defeat by Poirier three months ago when he was stopped in the second round. That followed a first-round victory for McGregor in their first meeting in 2014.

Poirier was given the option of fighting for the vacant 155lb title next month but instead opted for the more lucrative trilogy fight with McGregor.

The winner is likely to be granted a shot at the belt which will be on the line on May 15 when Michael Chandler takes on Charles Oliveira.
