Conor McGregor UFC news: Why Notorious is unlikely to make UFC comeback on December 14

Conor McGregor is unlikely to make his Octagon return on December 14.

The UFC has no plans to move its final event of the year from Las Vegas to Dublin, reports The Mirror.

The Notorious teased a return to action by tweeting: "Dublin, December 14th" which suggested he would be fighting at UFC 245 which is currently scheduled for that date.

But, as is tradition, the event will be held at the T-Mobile Arena on the Sin City strip with Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie.

That fight has not been confirmed as the main event but reports last week suggested Khabib Nurmagomedov could defend his lightweight title against Tony Ferguson on the same night.

Kamaru Usman could also defend his welterweight belt against Colby Covington after a deal was unable to be struck for UFC 244 in New York.

That would not prevent McGregor fighting on the card but the Irishman has previously rejected the opportunity to appear as the co-main attraction.

He has not fought since he was choked out by Nurmagomedov last October but insists he intends to return either late this year or early in 2020.

McGregor's most likely opponent is Justin Gaethje who knocked out Donald Cerrone in the first round in Vancouver on Saturday.

The winner of that fight would then likely earn a shot at the winner of Nurmagomedov's clash with Ferguson.

After his victory, Gaethje said: "The Irishman’s retired. I want a real fighter; I want the winner of Tony (Ferguson) and Khabib Nurmagomedov."

But he later added: "Far as I know, he’s retired. He’s in the rankings, so he either fights or he gets out. I absolutely would love to fight him."
