Conor McGregor UFC news: Tony McGregor insists son is in 'best shape of his life' ahead of Donald Cerrone clash

Tony McGregor insists son Conor is at his physical and mental peak ahead of Saturday night's scrap with Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.

McGregor and his team are confident that he can take down veteran fighter 'Cowboy' in Las Vegas as he looks to start 2020 with a bang.

That confidence is shared by proud dad Tony, who gave his prediction ahead of the welterweight clash.

He said: "Conor is in the best shape of his life, the training camp has been absolutely phenomenal.

"He’s physically and mentally the best he’s ever been, his preparation has been superb.

"We’re heading over on Thursday and will be there for the weigh-ins.

Tony added to the Irish Sun: "And a message from me to all his fans: let there be no worried faces, because Saturday night in Las Vegas, we hold all the aces!”

Tony has echoed the sentiments of  the former two-weight champion, who admitted that his preparation for his 2018 defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov was far from ideal.

This time around, however, training camp appears to have run smoothly.

The 31-year-old said: “I’m in a better place. I’ve made mistakes and I’ve been man enough to admit them and correct it, and that’s what I’ve done.

"I might not be perfect, but with a good sleep and a full belly, I’m damn close.”
