Conor McGregor UFC news: The Notorious trolls Paulie Malignaggi with 21 photos of their famous spar

Conor McGregor has savagely trolled old rival Paulie Malignaggi with 21 photos of their famous sparring session.

The pair sparred two years ago in the build-up to McGregor's first venture into professional boxing.

The former UFC champion was comprehensively beaten up and stopped by Floyd Mayweather in the second-richest fight in history.

During the sparring sessions, McGregor released footage which appeared to show him knocking down Malignaggi - something the American denied.

On Tuesday, Malignaggi slapped McGregor's former teammate Artem Lobov as the pair clashed ahead of a potential bare knuckle fight this summer.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious hints at MMA return after suggesting Khabib Nurmagomedov is 'scared' of rematch

Both fighters have signed with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship promotion and are headed for a summer showdown.

And in a show of defiance, McGregor backed his teammate by posting 21 photos of his sessions with Malignaggi.

They either showed the Dubliner punching his rival or Malignaggi looking beaten up in the corner.

The simmering rivalry has not faded over the last two years with both men continually taking pot-shots at each other.

But a boxing fight has never materialised  - although that could change if Malignaggi was to beat Lobov and McGregor wanted to exact revenge.

McGregor last week claimed to have retired from mixed martial arts but is expected to hold talks with UFC president Dana White in the coming weeks.

White said on Monday: "I think that there’s some things that Conor wants and I think that Conor wants to get together face to face, he and I, and we probably will in the next couple of weeks and we’ll get this thing figured out.

"Listen, who gets respected more than Conor McGregor does? Come on, the guy’s never been disrespected, definitely not by me. And he’s got a lot of money too.

"But he’s stuck on this thing where he wants a piece of the ownership and that’s just — if you look at basketball, Michael Jordan didn’t own a piece of the league, and the list goes on and on.

"Is Conor very valuable to the sport and to the brand, the UFC? Of course he is. That’s a tough one, but I think there’s other ways that we can make him happy."
