Conor McGregor UFC News: SBG Ireland teammate James Gallagher says Notorious' retirement is genuine

A lot of fans are still dubious over Conor McGregor 's recent retirement announcement, but his SBG Ireland teammate James Gallagher has claimed that he is serious about quitting the sport.

The pair are close friends, and Gallagher even thanked McGregor in a recent Instagram post for his help in contract negotiations for the UFC 's rival promotion Bellator MMA, where he signed a six-fight deal this week.

And speaking to Irish Mirror after announcing his return to the cage at Bellator London on June 22nd, Gallagher said: "He's retired, he's done.

"I wish him the best and I hope the next few years are as entertaining as the last few have been for him.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Odds for Notorious to return to boxing slashed

"He's a smart man and he's helped me a lot in negotiations behind the scenes, but Conor's good."

Gallagher announced earlier this week that he has signed a lucrative multi-fight contract for the American promotion, and he will return to the cage again in June at London's iconic SSE Arena Wembley.

However, McGregor has been pictured sparring in Miami despite saying that he has retired.

The Notorious posted two snaps of himself at the Fight Club Gym in Miami on his Instagram page two days after his announcement that he was done with Mixed Martial Arts.

One photo showed the Dubliner resting between rounds with the caption: "Sparring Cubans in Miami in Retirement. Aché.”

Another showed the Crumlin native in the heat of sparring on Thursday.

He went through several drills of shadow boxing, did pull ups and sparring work in the ring.

It has sparked fans to suggest that he could be set for a return to boxing and switch fighting codes once again.

Tickets to Bellator London: Mousasi vs. Lovato Jr. go on sale next week and can be purchased online from  axs.com/uk  and  Bellator.com .
