Conor McGregor UFC news: Odds for Notorious to return to boxing slashed

Conor McGregor could well be set for a return to the boxing ring after shocking fans with a retirement announcement just earlier this week.

McGregor put his UFC career on hold before for a mega-fight with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather back in 2017, and bookies reckon that he'll be stepping in the ring again.

So much so that Boylesports have slashed their odds from 10/1 to just 5/2 for the former two-weight champion to fight in boxing before the end of 2019.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It has become a case now of ‘What will Conor McGregor do next’ with rumours flying around today that he is to return to boxing, after he posted a picture sparring in Miami on his Instagram account.

"We have had to slash his odds from 10/1 into just 5/2 that the UFC star will return to the boxing ring this year, and it would be no surprise if he did. His boxing debut match against Mayweather back in 2017 created huge public interest so we could see him head down this route again”.

The move comes after the 30-year-old has been pictured sparring in Miami despite saying that he has retired.

The Notorous 30-year-old posted two snap of himself at the Fight Club Gym in Miami on his Instagram page two days after his announcement that he was done with Mixed Martial Arts.

One snaps showed the Dubliner resting between rounds with the caption: "Sparring Cubans in Miami in Retirement. Aché.”

Another showed the Crumlin native in the heat of sparring on Thursday.

He went through several drills of shadow boxing, did pull ups and sparring work in the ring.

The Notorious Dubliner took to Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning to make the announcement, writing: "Hey guys quick announcement, I've decided to retire from the sport formally known as 'Mixed Martial Art' today.

"I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!"

The Crumlin native hasn't stepped into the Octagon since October when he was submitted by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
