Conor McGregor has slammed MMA referee Marc Goddard for his behaviour at a 2012 fight night as part of a social media throwback post.
The Notorious was recalling his submission win over Dave Hill for the Cage Warriors featherweight world title, his first of many title wins, where Goddard was a member of Hill's corner team.
After the promotion shared a video from the old fight, McGregor responded saying: "What a great milestone in Irish MMA’s history!
"The behavior of Britain’s Marc Goddard in the corner that night was horrendous. Burst into the cage and attacked referee Neil Hall in between rounds.
"The fight was still in play! Crazy behavior for an up and coming referee!"
McGregor finished the post, which was seen by his 7.64 million followers, by adding 'anyway' and an Irish flag emoji.
And Marc Goddard didn't take long before responding, saying: "Hi Conor, been a while! I refereed your very next fight after that when you became champ champ for the 1st time remember!
"Congratulations on all your business success inside & outside of the game that you helped change forever! Hope to see you fight again soon. Slàinte!"
The incident wasn't shown on the television broadcast of the June 2nd title fight, but was referenced in passing by the commentators who said that Goddard was 'furious' with referee Neil Hall.
Cornermen are allowed into the cage between rounds during an MMA fight, meaning that Goddard was within his rights to enter when he did.
