Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious sends message to inspirational paralysed teen

Conor McGregor has thanked an inspirational paralysed teen who he brought to an MMA event last year.

Ian O'Connell, who was paralysed from the neck down after falling from his bike, shared photos from the night he met the former two-weight UFC champion.

Reflecting on meeting The Notorious, Ian said: “When I was on the Late late show Ryan Tubridy asked me who I looked up to. I told him I look up to  @thenotoriousmma .

"Less then 24hrs later I end up watching the Main Card Fights ringside at the 3 arena with Conor.

"It’s fair to say that I nearly stood up with the fight.

"Cherish moment’s like these because they don’t come around very often.

"The World works in weird ways. The living moment is everything.

"Enjoy moments you dream about because they exceed your expectations."

McGregor shared the post, saying: "Ian brother, truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

"I am with you all the way!"

Meanwhile, McGregor has had all charges against him dropped after he was accused of stealing and destroying a fan’s phone outside a US hotel.

Prosecutors said Ahmed Abdirzak had stopped co-operating with authorities, bringing the case against the trouble-prone MMA star to a close.

District attorney Khalil Madani said yesterday: “The victim of the crime does not wish to return to the United States and prosecute this case.”

McGregor was scheduled to appear in a Miami court yesterday but was not obliged to.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious trolls Max Holloway before quickly deleting tweet

According to a lawsuit, British holidaymaker Abdirzak and other fans were taking videos of McGregor outside the Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami Beach when the fighter allegedly punched the phone
out of Abdirzak’s hand, repeatedly stomped on it and walked off with it in his pocket.

CCTV footage later emerged showing McGregor hitting the device before smashing it on the ground. Miami state attorney’s office downgraded the charges against the 30-year-old to robbery by sudden snatching and misdemeanour criminal mischief, lowering his potential punishment to a maximum of six years in prison.

Yesterday it emerged Abdirzak, 22, from Slough, England, has already settled a civil suit with McGregor for a reported €13,000.

The fighter’s lawyer Sam Rabin said: “I think this was the appropriate resolution of this case.”

The Dubliner, 30, was arrested on March 11 following a confrontation at the A-list haunt.

Just hours after the incident, restaurant worker Abdirzak told the Irish Mirror he was assaulted with “proper power” by McGregor after a night at the venue’s club.

He said he thought the dad of two was drunk when the alleged incident took place around 5am.

The incident initially left the multi-millionaire facing two felony charges just days after completing community service in New York for disorderly conduct.
